The procedures for the removal of the dangerous tanker “SLOPS” which has been abandoned in the bay of Vlychas since 2007, in a semi-submerged state with residues of oil sludge and which constitutes a very serious threat of pollution to the marine and terrestrial environment of the Elefsina bay, are being accelerated.
Specifically, as stated in a relevant announcement, the Elefsina Port Organization (OLE) S.A. “is preparing a specialized economic and technical study for the planning and implementation of the complete decontamination of the M/T “SLOPS” from the existing residues-waste, so that then the ship should be delivered “clean” for dismantling”.
The process is activated within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation co-signed by the CEO of OLE. SA Mr. Apostolos Kamarinakis and the “Green Fund” in order to utilize immediately available resources of the “Blue Fund” program for the complex and costly task of removing the shipwrecks from the area of competence of the Port of Elefsina.
