Some electoral contests during the 2023 local elections seem to have generated even more interest because of the result.
It is typical that with only one vote difference, Konstantinos Sinanis was elected the new mayor of Agios Efstratiou, leaving behind the current mayor Maria Kakali.
Specifically, Mr. Sinanis got 130 votes and 8 seats and Ms. Kakali 129 votes and 5 seats.
At the same time, Gikas Gikas emerged first in the municipal elections of the Municipality of Ios. However, there was no other candidate
It is worth noting that the current mayor was elected for the second consecutive election as the only candidate, winning all 15 seats of the municipal council.
It is recalled that a mayor is elected who has gathered a percentage of more than 43% of the valid ballots.
In cases where no combination reaches this percentage, then a repeat round will be held the following Sunday, October 15, in which the first two in votes from the first Sunday will participate.
