
The renewal of the fleet through the supply of 25 (22 and 3 spare) mini urban electric buses is supported and planned by OASA, in the context of the transition to electric mobility which is a strategic choice for Greece, for reasons of environment, competitiveness, reducing the dependence on imported fuels and the high maintenance costs of city buses.
Athens Mass Transit-OASA: Higher ticket revenue in 2022 than pre-Covid
The new electric buses will be used on four (4) candidate bus lines in central Athens. Regarding the financing of the project, it is requested that the project be included in the National Development Program of 2022 with a total budget of € 11,160,000 and credits of € 2,500,000 for 2022 and € 8,660,000.00 for 2023.
Supply of 1,300 buses
The supply of 1,300 buses and their accessories is in progress with the aim of renewing the city bus fleet for the major areas of Athens and Thessaloniki, which will be carried out in two (2) phases:
As part of the first investment, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (YPYME) is proceeding with the supply of 650 buses with anti-pollution technology, including the necessary accompanying elements for the service of electric buses.
The competition is ongoing and concerns:
A. 200 12-meter natural gas buses,
B. 100 18 meter natural gas buses,
C. 100 12m electric buses with a range of 135 km
D. 250 12m electric buses with a range of 180 km.
In the tender, no bids were submitted for hybrid buses, as originally planned, and the evaluation is proceeding for the remaining categories of vehicles. It is estimated that Athens will receive 550 new vehicles out of the 650 of the first investment phase and the first vehicles will be delivered within 2023.
