Although for the time being the economic staff appears reassuring as to the effect that the Israel-Hamas fighting may have, nevertheless the radars… are fixed on the region in case of a generalization of the conflict in the Middle East.
The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Mr. Nikos Papathanasis was asked about the possible effects on energy costs from the stormy developments in Israel.
Half of Greek households are unable to keep their homes warm enough
As he typically said during the press conference: “We are following the developments concerning the Middle East. At the moment there is nothing different.”
It is worth noting that even after the latest events in the Middle East, the economic staff of the government does not seem willing to change the plans regarding the support of households in the matter of energy costs: “In the energy sector, we have decided to grant the heating allowance, which is enlarged this year and thus will include more citizens. There is no other planning apart from what we have announced, in terms of the energy sector…”, underlined Mr. Papathanasis.
It is αλσο worth noting that according to the most recent statements of the Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Theodoros Skylakakis, until the end of the year the framework of emergency measures for electricity will be maintained.
That is, depending on the fluctuation of wholesale prices, the financial staff of the government will be able to subsidize electricity bills. From the new year onwards, the aforementioned institutional framework ceases to apply.
