September was also positive for Greek tourism with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announcing an increase in passenger traffic by +9.3% compared to 2022 and by +13.9% compared to 2019
In particular, the CAA announced that from the provisional statistics for September 2023 and nine months 2023, for all of our country’s airports (Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport, 24 airports managed by CAA, 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece), it appears that increased passenger traffic and flights at the country’s airports, in relation to the corresponding period of 2022 and 2019.
This September recorded an increase in passenger traffic by +9.3% compared to 2022 and by +13.9% compared to 2019, as 9,710,481 were handled in 2023, 8,881,695 in 2022 and 8,523 in 2019. .771 passengers.
The data
In particular, for the nine months of the year 2023 in Greece (January/September 2023) the total number of passengers traveling at airports (arrivals and departures of foreign and domestic passengers) reached 59,901,542, compared to 52,670,370 in the corresponding period of 2022 and 53,418,973 passengers in 2019. From the above statistics, there is an increase in passenger traffic of +13.7% compared to 2022 and an increase of +12.1% compared to 2019.
In terms of flight statistics (domestic and international aircraft arrivals and departures) September 2023 there were 70,763 flights, compared to 70,142 in 2022 and 64,906 flights in 2019, with air traffic increasing by +0.9%, compared to 2022 and an increase of +9.0% compared to 2019. Flight statistics for the nine months of the year 2023 (January/September 2023) show that there were 459,949 flights in 2023, compared to 453,279 in 2022 and 433,320 flights in 2019, with air traffic in the nine months of 2023 to rise +1.5% compared to 2022 and increase +6.1% compared to 2019.
