
“The Metro project will go ahead as planned” the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos clarified in an interview with state news agency AMNA, adding : “[Incoming Athens Mayor] Mr. Doukas’ flirtation with the reactionaries was very obvious. However, in addition to being a politician, he is also an engineer. I think he understands.”
The deputy minister referred to all major road projects concerning the Attica basin, Thessaloniki and the rest of the country.
For the Thessaloniki Metro, he states that it will be delivered in the second half of 2024, while for the project of the new regional Thessaloniki Flyover, he emphasizes that “with its completion, the doubling of service cars per hour, to 10,000 per direction”, will be achieved.
Regarding whether there should be an immediate widening of Kifisou Avenue, Mr. Tachiaos notes that this is a project of the Region, which has the first say.
Regarding the projects to be done in Thessaly, Mr. Tachiaos says: “we are running with a thousand. And yet, time is not enough.”
Finally, regarding the restoration of the damages that have been done to the railway network, the deputy minister states that “even the end of 2024 seems quite early”.
