Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his weekly review on social media, on Sunday said the government’s draft 2024 budget boosts citizens’ disposable income, enhances social cohesion, reduces inequalities and improves the competitiveness of the Greek economy.
His comments come amid increasing public discontent, as shown by repeated opinion polls, of continuously rising prices for essential goods and the overall cost-of-living.
He claims that the new budget will boost their income while on the contrary Greeks have seen their income shrinking while the cost of living increases and with the upcoming Christmas table seeing a 20% increase from last year prices.
It is expected that the Greek Premier will explain his claims about the 2024 budget on Sunday’s debate prior the roll call vote in Parliament.
He referred to the actions planned in order to tackle fan violence and to free sports venues from this problem.
“Some of you reading these lines – especially those fans who have purchased season tickets – may be skeptical. I want you to know that I understand your anger and disbelief. But I also want to assure you that no matter how difficult the task may seem, we will continue the fight to put an end to the unacceptable phenomenon.”
Mitsotakis promised that within the first months of the new year, the restoration of the railway connection on the central Athens-Thessaloniki axis, damaged from the storms “Daniel” and “Elias”, will begin as well as railway sections, Larissa-Volos and Paleofarsalo-Kalambaka, and the tourist line of Pelion will be restored.
Greece holds the first place in the International Maritime Organization for the provision of shipping services he said while he pointed out that this is not accidental.
