International Hotel Group Reports Upsurge in Greek Tourist Activity

The Meliá Hotels International (MHI) chain – an international group managing a portfolio of over 400 hotels worldwide, spanning more than 40 countries – is experiencing an uptick trend in Greece, according to the latest data.

The Spanish hotel group has observed a surge in tourist bookings for 2023 compared to the previous year, indicating a notable increase in travel interest in the country.

In Greece, Meliá Hotels International oversees three resorts: Sol by Meliá Cosmopolitan Rhodes in Rhodes, Sol Marina Beach Crete, and Hotel Blue Sea Beach Affiliated By Meliá in Crete, along with Meliá Athens in Athens.

The Meliá resorts in Crete and Rhodes have consistently attracted travelers from Romania, with significant interest noted from Polish tourists in Rhodes and a notable French presence in Crete.

Rhodes:

French tourist reservations increased by +14%.

Polish tourist reservations saw a significant surge of +40%.

Scandinavian countries recorded a +26% increase.

German reservations experienced a decrease of -8%.

UK reservations declined by -5%.

Average Daily Rate (ADR) increased by 9% in Rhodes.

Occupancy slightly decreased from 87% to 86% due to wildfires on the island.

Reservations from the UK increased by +7%.

German reservations saw a rise of +5%.

Romanian reservations recorded a substantial +44% increase.

Polish reservations increased by +8.8%.

Crete and Rhodes continue to dominate the markets of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Scandinavia in 2023. Early forecasts indicated particularly positive trends, with German reservations doubling compared to 2022.
