New Year’s Eve Carols sung to President, PM and New Athens Mayor

The president of the republic as well as the prime minster and the newly sworn-in mayor of Athens were treated to traditional Greek New Year’s carols on Sunday, with various carolers and dance troupes from around the country performing.

President Katerina Sakellaropoulou first received the armed forces’ band and members of the Evzone Guard at the presidential mansion in central Athens.

Later, she received members of Greek-based UniquALL organization, which empowers neurodiverse children on the autism spectrum through sports.

Sakellaropoulou also heard carols sung in the Thrace region from performers of the Panthracian Federation of Southern Greece, followed by a choir of previously homeless people at the UNESCO Club in Piraeus.

Other groups included the world association of people originating from Mani (in extreme southern Greece), the Federation of Chanting Associations of Greece, as well as the Ukrainian Children’s School in Athens ‘Beregynia’. The event wrapped up with performances by the Panepirot Confederation of Greece and the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra of Amfilochia.

A group of Boy Scouts of Greece sang the New Year’s traditional carols to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was accompanied by his son at Maximos Mansion.

The Greek PM presented them with gifts and exchanged best wishes for the new year.

The new Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, received traditional carolers from the Athens Music School who sang carols from the eastern Aegean island of Chios (Hios) and the northern province of Macedonia, while the Association of Cretans from Corinth – Psiloritis performed traditional Cretan dances.
