U.S. Ambassador to Athens, George Tsunis said Greece was transforming into an energy and communications hub in the Balkans, during his speech at the Economist’s conference “THE WORLD AHEAD 2024: ATHENS GALA DINNER,” Monday evening.
The top U.S. diplomat underlined the U.S. was looking forward to further deepening relations with the Greek government, an essential NATO ally, and partner in the region, in efforts to continue to advance common goals for peace and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region.
In anticipation of the “5th Greek-American Strategic Dialogue” scheduled for February in Washington, Ambassador Tsunis highlighted the role of Greece as a stabilizing force and a reliable U.S. partner, stressing that it served as a pillar of stability in the in Southeastern Europe region.
He echoed the words of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his recent meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Chania, stating that there has never been a stronger moment in his tenure when the partnership and friendship between the U.S. and Greece were more robust.
In conclusion, George Tsunis expressed U.S. support for Greece hosting the “International Our Ocean Conference”, emphasizing the country’s role as a global leader in addressing global challenges.
