The Ellinikon Experience Park, a greenspace established within the massive same-name property development project in coastal southeast Athens, has been awarded the SITES Gold certification as a sustainable “model urban park”.
This international certification focuses on the design, development and management of sustainable and resilient landscapes and outdoor spaces.
The Ellinikon Experience Park was designed by the doxiadis+ team, an Athens-based Architecture and Landscape Architecture practice.
The Experience Park covers more than 75,000 square meters and includes more than 500 trees and 50,000 plants planted around four squares and four different green areas. According to the designer’s website, the park retains certain “beautiful elements”—both natural and artificial—of Athens’ old international airport, as well as promoting core sustainability concepts.
