More than 60 hotel projects will be developed in Greece over the next four years with four out of 10 operating under the umbrella of international brands, according to the “Greek Market Report | Hotel Investments 2024 – 2027″, by Travelworks Public Relations.
Athens is due to welcome several new hotels in the coming years. Among the highlights is the “91 Athens Riviera,” a luxury camping resort managed by Domes Resorts. Additionally, Lampsa Group will open a boutique hotel in September 2024. Grecotel is also joining the fray with the Roc Club hotel near Lake Vouliagmeni, slated for May 2024.
Brown Hotels is making its mark with two new properties: the Brown Museum and the Domino Brown, both set to open soon. In 2025, the Villa Brown Sans Rival will offer 46 rooms.
The former Hilton Athens property will undergo a transformation in 2025, with two Hilton brands, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Conrad Residences, along with Waldorf Astoria Residences, making their debut. Meanwhile, the Radisson RED Group plans to open the Mitropoleos Square Athens Radisson by late 2025, and the Radisson Theatrou Square with 172 rooms.
In 2027, the second Mandarin Oriental in Greece is expected to open in the Elliniko development, complemented by another hotel with 200 rooms and 49 residences. Additionally, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens, boasting 1,000 rooms, will be a major addition to the city’s hospitality landscape.
Piraeus is also seeing a surge in hotel investment. By spring 2024, the “IP14” project and DKG Development’s Mediterranean are expected to open. The Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port, featuring 103 rooms, is also in the works, along with the conversion of the former Mistral Hotel into an 83-room hotel.
The Peloponnese Riviera is attracting attention, with the Six Senses Porto Heli hotel and Greece’s first Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Resort slated for 2026. Moreover, Porto Heli will welcome AKS Hinitsa Bay and AKS Porto Heli Hotel. In Ermioni, Hydra’s Art Residencies will take shape.
Several island destinations are also undergoing significant developments. Mykonos will see the launch of Deos by Myconian Collection and Numo Mykonos in 2024. Santorini will welcome Santo Mine Oia Suites and Domes Novos. Folegandros will debut the Gundari resort, while Patmos will reopen as Patmos Aktis. Kea Island will introduce One&Only Kea Island, and Paros will unveil Andronis Minois and a boutique hotel by Vivium Holding.
Rhodes and the Ionian Islands are also experiencing notable investments.
Crete remains a hotspot for investment, with the InterContinental Resort Crete set to open in 2024, alongside Elios Hill and Imperial Flair Chania Old Town.
Northern Greece, including Thessaloniki and Halkidiki, is also witnessing hotel expansions, with Electra Hotels and Zoëtry Halkidiki Resort & Spa leading the way.
