
GDP growth in Greece for 2023 reached 2%, reaching 194.5 billion euros, compared to 190.7 billion euros in absolute terms in 2022, according to the Hellenic Statistics Authority (EL.STAT).
The figure, if confirmed, falls short of the official target of 2.4% for the year, but is higher than the Eurozone average.
GDP rose by 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to the third quarter, while it rose by 1.2% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the country eased to 10.5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, down from 10.8% in the third quarter of 2023 and from a 11.9% figure in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to EL.STAT.
The number of unemployed persons reached nearly 489,000, a 5% decrease compared to the previous quarter and down by 12.5% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Of this figure, 248,000 jobless individuals, or 50.8%, are identified as long-term unemployed.
