The unemployment rate in Greece continued to fall in February 2024, standing at 11% of the active workforce, compared to 11.2% in the corresponding month of 2023, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT) announced on Monday.
The downward trend in unemployment began in earnest at the tail-end of the Covid-19 pandemic and has continued to fall in the country on an almost monthly basis.
The number of registered unemployed people exceeded 524,000, marginally down by 0.1% from February 2023.
The unemployment rate among women stood at 14.2%, compared to 15.2% in February 2023.
The highest jobless figure remained in the 15-24 age group, with the rate falling to 25% from 27.6% in February 2023.
Conversely, the number of employed people in the country of roughly 11 million was more than 4.228 million, up by 1.82% compared with the corresponding month of 2023 and up by 3.7% compared with the preceding month, January 2024.
