The latest opinion poll shows a decrease in the double-digit gap separating ruling New Democracy (ND) party from main opposition SYRIZA, with the difference given at 12.5 percentage points before an extrapolation of the results.
Specifically, center-right ND is given 25.5% in a poll by the Prorata firm presented on the regional Attica television channel on Monday evening. Leftist SYRIZA follows with 13%. When the results are extrapolated for the coming European Parliament election, ND is calculated at between 28 to 32%, comfortably ahead of SYRIZA’s 13.5 to 16.5%.
The ruling party has nevertheless dropped 4.5 percentage points from the last poll by the same firm, in January 2024. Conversely, SYRIZA has gained 2.5 percentage points.
The socialist PASOK party’s influence is between 11.5 and 14.5%, leaving it in third place. Another four to five lesser parties are shown as above the 3-percent threshold needed for representation in the European Parliament.
Asked who they trust most for prime minister among the current political party leaders, respondents, by 40% answered “no one”.
Incumbent Kyriakos Mitsotakis is favored by 33% of respondents, with his closest rival, SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis coming in a very distant second, at only 6%.
