Greece’s independent tax bureau, AADE, will be the new tenant of a centrally located shopping mall in south downtown Athens, the CEO of the company owning the property, Athens Hearts Mall, announced on Friday.

Specifically, Premia Properties CEO Costas Markazos said the Athens Heart mall, located along Piraeus Avenue, which connects central Athens with Piraeus, was turned over to the Independent Authority for Public Revenues for use by the latter as its headquarters. The AADE director’s office will also be hosted at the now one-time shopping mall.

The company executive announced the deal during a general shareholders’ meeting, saying the agreement was mutually beneficial.

Athens Hearts has posted declining revenues before closing, as competition in the greater Athens-Piraeus region over the past two decades was intense.

According to reports, AADE will house nine different departments – with 1,700 staff members – that are now scattered around greater Athens in a modern, energy efficient and what’s promised to be “green premises”.

At the same time, Premia said the annual lease for the property will reach 4.4 million euros, with the contract fixed for 12 years.

“Amenities” foreseen at the new tax bureau headquarters will be a daycare, gyms, food & beverage spaces and a new state-of-the-art security system.
