Astudy by British Travel Weekly spotlights the modern trend of “twin destinations,” with Astypalaia, part of the Dodecanese island group, leading its list of the top five unconventional Greek islands. These islands offer unique travel escapes without the typical crowds found in more famous Greek tourist spots.

Astypalaia tops Travel Weekly’s “secret five” list. According to the popular British publication, Astypalaia is one of the Dodecanese’s best-kept secrets, featuring traditional whitewashed villages, stunning sunsets, and fantastic beaches. It offers everything one could dream of, minus the crowds.

The article emphasizes the growing demand for new, unexplored destinations each year, as evidenced by international online searches. It notes the significant interest shown by British journalists and travel agents in the sustainable innovations, alternative activities, and natural beauties of Astypalaia, presented by the island’s mayor, Nikos Komineas, at the WTM international tourism exhibition in London.

This presentation was part of the sustainability marathon organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization’s UK office.

“Astypalaia is evolving into a sustainable destination, unique on a global scale. The response from travelers to these changes has been remarkable. We anticipate a very promising tourist season,” stated the Deputy Mayor of Astypalaia, Kostas Kampylis.

Following Astypalaia on the list are Milos, Symi, Paxoi (Paxi), and Ithaca. In contrast, the five islands that are always in the spotlight are Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Corfu, and Kos.
