This year, on June 24, Orthodox Christians will observe Pentecost (Trinity Day), marking the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and disciples. For Athenians, it signals the onset of summer festivities, often considered the city’s inaugural long weekend getaway before the peak holiday season begins.
With early June bringing scorching temperatures, set to continue through the month’s end, a significant uptick in travel is anticipated. Reports indicate hotel bookings for the Pentecost long weekend (June 22 to 24) are already between 75% and 80%. This year travelers are favoring road trips apart from the traditional island escapes.
According to travel experts, the surge in road travel is driven by escalating ferry ticket prices, particularly discouraging for island-bound trips. This trend highlights a notable increase in trips to destinations accessible by road.
Highlighting Greece’s diversity beyond its islands, travel agents noted that accommodation costs have remained stable.
According to MEGA TV, the prices for a 3-night package including breakfast at a 4-star hotel, designed for a family of 2 adults and 2 children, focusing on road destinations are:
• Kalamata on the Peloponnese peninsula from 360 euros
• Olympia on the Peloponnese peninsula starting at 390 euros
• Pelion in the Pagasetic Gulf in eastern Greece with rates from 420 euros
• Paralia Katerini in central Macedonia with costs from 450 euros
• Syvota in Epirus with prices starting at 450 euros
