In May 2024, the weighted average interest rate on new deposits remained almost unchanged at 0.55%, while the corresponding rate on loans decreased to 5.54%, according to the Bank of Greece (BoG).
The interest rate spread between new deposits and loans decreased to 4.99 percentage points.
The average interest rate on overnight deposits placed by households remained unchanged at 0.03%, while the corresponding rate on deposits by non-financial corporations remained almost unchanged at 0.17%.
The average interest rate on deposits from households with an agreed maturity of up to 1 year remained unchanged at 1.83%, while the corresponding rate on deposits from non-financial corporations remained almost unchanged at 3.18%.
In May 2024, the weighted average interest rate on outstanding amounts of deposits remained almost unchanged at 0.54%, while the corresponding rate on loans decreased to 6.23%.
The interest rate spread between outstanding amounts of deposits and loans decreased to 5.69 percentage points.
As the Bank of Greece (BoG) notes, the average interest rate on consumer loans without a defined maturity (a category that comprises credit cards, revolving loans, and overdrafts) decreased by 8 basis points to 14.99%.
Private sector deposits in April 2024 rose by 384 million euros, marking a contrast to the substantial 1.678 billion increase observed in the previous month.
