Greece’s coastline spans 13,676 kilometers, boasting the longest shoreline in the whole of the Mediterranean Sea. It’s no surprise that most of the world’s top beaches for crystal-clear waters are more often than not found in the sun-kissed country, with Prassa Beach on the island of Kimolos taking top honors. The Greek beach was voted the absolute best in the world.
‘Breathtaking Scenery’ of the Greek beach
A popular U.S. travel agency, Florida Panhandle, conducted a vast online survey of traveler reviews for beaches worldwide. After tabulating its over 2.4 million reviews, the coastal stretch adorning the northern part of Kimolos emerged victorious, with a staggering 43.56% of respondents mentioning ‘crystal-clear waters’.
The results were far from surprising, given the pristine, calm, and shallow turquoise waters, combined with the thick, snow-white sand composed of white rocks, which create a truly alluring scene.
“The white sand and incredible waters create a breathtaking landscape that attracts visitors from all corners of the world,” emphasizes Sotiria Galamelou, the head of the website Mama Sou, in an interview with the Athens-News Agency. Galamelou, who has fallen under the island’s spell, divides her time between Athens and Kimolos.
Recently, Greece saw two beaches included in Tripadvisor’s Best Beaches in Europe for 2024, as part of its annual Travellers’ Choice Awards.
Galissas Beach in Syros ranked 5th while Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia was voted 8th in Europe. Two more Greek beaches, Anthony Quinn Bay, Faliraki took the 12th spot and Matala Beach in Crete came in 14th.
