The European Commission is bringing changes to EU air travel in member-states regarding the transport of hand luggage and liquids inside airplanes, effective this coming Sunday, Sep. 1.
Regarding hand luggage, the new EU regulations permit passengers one piece of hand luggage of 55 x 40 x 20 cm in size, with a maximum weight of no more than ten kilograms.
Additionally, another small item, such as a handbag, backpack, or laptop bag of 40 x 30 x 15 cm in size that can fit under their front seat, is also permitted.
The EU will reintroduce the previous restrictions on the amount of liquids passengers can carry in their hand luggage.
Regarding Liquids, previously, travelers at airports with Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB) could bring liquids over 100 ml. This exception will be removed under the new EU Air Travel rules until all European airports are equipped with the same EDSCB technology.
As of this Sunday, passengers traveling to an EU airport will be restricted in the amount of liquids, creams, and gels they can take in their carry-on luggage.
These substances must be placed in containers of no more than 100ml and have passed through airport security in a clear plastic bag. What is more, the liquids must be placed into a tray, separate from other passenger items.
However, there are some exceptions regarding liquids. Passengers with babies or others with health issues may be allowed to carry formulas or medication with them, though they are required to check with the airport beforehand.
