The monthly inflation rate in Greece continued to exceed the same figure for the entire Eurozone in August 2024, while marginally higher – 3.1% compared to 3% – than in the previous month, July 2024.

According to an announcement on Friday by Eurostat in Brussels, the monthly rate for the Euro Area reached 2.2% in August, down from 2.6% in the previous month, showing distinct signs of gradually flattening out and even exceeding analysts’ forecasts.

Throughout the Eurozone, services posted the highest increase, on an annual basis, in terms of prices, 4.2% compared to 4.0% in July 2023. Foods, alcohol and tobacco followed, 2.4% to 2.30% the previous month.

Persistent monthly hikes in food prices in Greece, higher usually than the Eurozone average, have bedeviled consumers in the country in the post-pandemic period.
