
Ride-hailing company Uber is seeing demand grow in Greece thanks to a strong tourism season, based on data collected by the company.
Indicatively, demand for rides through its mobile app to and from Athens International Airport in the last quarter (July to September) was up by 50% compared to the same period in 2023.
In the same period, requests for Uber transport services in Athens increased by 47% and by 76% in Thessaloniki.
Requests for rides to the port of Piraeus, where most of the ferries to the Greek islands depart, were up by 80% on average from July to Sept..
Uber operates in over 10,000 cities across more than 70 countries. Its international presence has made it one of the most recognized and widely used transportation platforms globally.
In Greece, in addition to its ride-sharing services, the company offers water transport through its recently launched Uber Boat app offering rides to high-in-demand destinations including Santorini, Mykonos, and Corfu as well as access to hidden beaches and remote beach clubs.
Company data reveals that in addition to strong demand for rides in the summer months in Greece, an increasing number of users in September reflects an extended tourist season in both Athens and Thessaloniki.
In terms of users in the period under review, tourists preferring Uber services in Greece are mainly from the US and the UK followed by Australians, Canadians and Brazilians. Users said they used the ride-hailing company because it was reliable and a safe transport option.
