“Regardless of the outcome, Greek-American relations are strategic and their content will not be affected”, the Prime Minister said during his meeting with the President of Greece.
The Prime Minister and the President of the Republic focused on the American elections in their statements at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, shortly after 11 a.m. crossed the threshold of the Palace to provide Katerina Sakellaropoulou with the monthly briefing.
Mitsotakis stressed that “regardless of the outcome, Greek-American relations are strategic and their content will not be affected”. It is a refrain Mitsotakis has repeated several times.
Speaking about polarization and toxicity on the other side of the Atlantic, the Prime Minister said that “it is a problem in itself, as I say we may be adversaries but we are not enemies. We should know that our democracy is strengthened when political dialogue is conducted in a civilized manner.”
He added that “it becomes absolutely necessary for Europe to come of age geopolitically. The time has come for Europe to re-energize itself by launching policies that go off the beaten track”.
The President of the Republic noted that the US elections “are of particular importance for the entire international community” and focused on the generalized insecurity and challenges.
He underlined that Greece “will obviously cooperate with whichever president the American people elect”.
What Mitsotakis and Sakellaropoulou said about tax cuts and minimum wage
The prime minister also said that two bills on tax and minimum wage are being given for public consultation.
“The government remains firmly committed to cutting taxes. As long as the scourge of tax evasion is tackled to make targeted tax cuts. Our healthy finances allow us to make calculated tax cuts, especially for the middle class,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.
He concluded by stressing that “the government remains committed to the target of a minimum of 950 euros”.
