The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced an increase in overtime pay and special hazard bonuses for police and military personnel as provided in the newly-passed 2025 state budget.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Athanasios Petralias stated, “Recognising the contribution of the members of the security forces and the armed forces, the hazard bonus is to be increased by 100 euros per month beginning on 1 July 2025.”
The allowance will be given to 153,240 uniformed personnel, specifically 79,677 military personnel, 52,954 police officers, 8,161 port officers and 12,448 firefighters. The annual cost of this bonus is 184 million euros plus employer contributions.
“In January they will see increases in night pay, in April they will see increases in line with the minimum wage and in July they will see an increase from the hazard bonus,” said Athanasios.
Prime Kyriakos Mitsotakis specifically pointed to the hazard bonus during the debate on the 2025 budget, stating that the bonus “is connected to the daily lives of our 150,000 soldiers: our police officers who fight day and night against crime, our firefighters, our porters and of course the women and men of the Armed Forces, who protect the homeland. By making the most of our budgetary capabilities, the government will actively recognize the dangerous nature of the services they provide to these officers wearing the national emblem.”
