PM Mitsotakis Outlines 2025 Goals for Growth and National Interests

The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made his first customary Sunday post on his Facebook account for 2025, referring to his government’s most recent activities and achievements, made a personal commitment for the New Year.

“The government’s work will remain intense and multifaceted, so that day by day, something changes and the lives of all citizens become better,” the prime minister stated.

In his post, Mitsotakis initially referred to tax and burden reductions, as well as measures to support citizens’ incomes, noting that with the start of the New Year, workers and pensioners will see improved earnings and reduced contributions, while professionals will benefit from a reduction in the special tax.

He made reference to a total of 18 tax and burden reductions, as well as 7 income support measures, to be implemented in 2025 which will boost citizens’ disposable income. These support measures, are set to target primarily low-income pensioners who are former EKAS beneficiaries, who will be exempt from the pharmaceutical expenditure contribution.

Other measures include the doubling of property tax (ENFIA) reductions from 10% to 20% for residential properties of individuals, provided they are insured against natural disasters. Mitsotakis also noted that doctors’ on-call shifts will be taxed at a rate of 22%, while the refund of the excise duty on agricultural fuel will be made permanent, with the implementation of a new system based on actual consumption.

He then referred to his government’s National Strategy for the Protection of Minors from Internet Addiction. “Our goal is to support parents and minors by promoting responsible and moderate use of the internet,” noted the prime minister.

Mitsotakis further pointed out that the platform https://parco.gov.gr has become operational, providing guidance to parents on how to use parental controls to help create a safe digital environment for their children.

He added that the Kids Wallet app will be added to existing tools, the upcoming April, clarifying that it will be a “digital wallet” for children, linked to the parent’s Gov.gr Wallet, with various parental controls being easily accessible on the application.

Mitsotakis emphasized that this framework will work in conjunction with other initiatives that have already been undertaken, such as the ban on mobile phone use by students in schools and the implementation of SAFE.YOUth.

He also highlighted Greece as a leading force at European level by developing a framework to adopt common rules and address gaps that are currently observed, aiming to protect the country’s youth.

Regarding the Greek economy, the Prime Minister emphasized that 2024 recorded performances that placed Greece among the top in the European Union in key indicators, such as the absorption of European funds.

He attributed this to the successful implementation of the Public Investment Development Program (101.25%), which, at a size of 13.3 billion euros, achieved a 15-year record.

Mitsotakis forecasted that in 2025, this program would be even larger, reaching 14.1 billion euros. “Our goal is to support the dynamic growth of the Greek economy, creating even more jobs with a greater dividend for society,” he stressed.

Additionally, the prime minister announced the upgrading of the border station at Kipi in Evros, a project expected to reduce the waiting time for vehicle crossings by 75%.

Concluding, he referred to the decision by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to accept the cancellation request by the Hellenic Republic against the use of the “Turkaegean” trademark, by Turkey.

“With dedication and professionalism, we are safeguarding our national interests at all levels,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
