Center-left party PASOK has lodged a harsh critique of Supreme Court decision to dismiss the latest lawsuits in the ongoing “Predatorgate” Spyware Scandal.
Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Achilleas Zisis, dismissed the suits on Wednesday on the grounds of insufficient evidence–stating that the individual whose bank card paid for phishing messages which contained the Predator malware, was not connected to the case “since a third party made use of the card and charged it.”
The Deputy Supreme Court Prosecutor ruled that the accused has no proven links to the companies that sell Predator, or any individuals within Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP).
“The decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss the case of the prepaid card used to pay for the Predator-infected messages is another link in the chain of cover-up,” wrote PASOK in a statement after the decision was announced.
PASOK president Nikos Androulakis was one of the plaintiffs. Androulakis filed a lawsuit in November 2024, seeking further investigation into who was behind attempts to infect his phone with Predator malware in 2021.
Anrdoulakis has previously claimed that prime minister Mitsotakis “methodically avoided providing explanations about the deep-state branch set up” of the National Intelligence Service, and stated, “I will not accept any cover up, the clock is ticking against him.”
In the statement on Wednesday, PASOK took a similar line: “The Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Achilleas Zisis, adopted the fanciful scenario that the card was activated by a ‘stranger’, without the PIN code, and used it, unbeknownst to its owner, to buy messages infected with the spy software Predator, which were sent to former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the President of PASOK and government ministers. It even accepted it without any technical or banking analysis.”
“Mr. Mitsotakis, whose institutions and the rule of law were shattered during his premiership, we hope that in his interview tonight – among the many things for which he will apologize – he will not hide again about the wiretapping scandal.”
