Apart from his indisputable talents on the NBA basketball courts, Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has proven time and again that his exploits extend beyond the sport he loves into the business world. In his latest venture, the Greek Freak, invested in an AI-powered service managing video clips for sports organizations.
Besides Giannis, investors in the sports storytelling platform called ScorePlay, include heavy hitters like “The Twenty Minute VC” founder Harry Stebbings, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s VC firm Seven Seven Six, former Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg, and soccer star and former U.S. Women’s National Team captain Alex Morgan.
In April 2024, Antetokounmpo acquired the Village Cinema Rentis, a large shopping center complex located in the homonymous suburb in the region of Attica, in partnership with PREMIA Properties.
PREMIA Properties released a statement informing the public the deal was reached after Renti to Go Single-Member S.A. acquired 100% of the shares of Trivillage Developments Greece Single-Member S.A. for a total price of €14.1 million.
Giannis Antetokounmpo stated his family had invested in an area in Attica where he and his brother Thanasis had spent their childhood years. He added the investment was the most significant in Greece to date. “Our vision is to enhance the space, offering people and their families unforgettable moments while implementing our broader plans for the development of sports.”
Giannis also entered the movie industry at the end of 2024 as the co-producer of a heist comedy set on the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos.
ScorePlay has secured €12 million in funding, according to an announcement made today by the company.
The platform, founded in 2021 by Victorien Tixier and Xavier Green, automatically tags and organizes content, allowing teams to speed up distribution to broadcasters, sponsors, and even the athletes themselves.
ScorePlay’s technology is used by over 200 sports organizations worldwide. It helps teams streamline their highlights and clips through artificial intelligence. The company’s clients include NBA and NHL teams, as well as leagues such as Major League Soccer and the National Women’s Soccer League.
The company has been experiencing triple-digit growth year over year and has reported profitability, with total funding reaching €19.3 million. Previous investors also include co-NBAer Kevin Durant.
