
Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the Greek Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) recorded a 12.6% increase in January 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to official data from the aviation authority.
Specifically, the total number of passengers—both domestic and international arrivals and departures—reached 219,777 in January 2025, up from 195,251 in January 2024.
At a national level, passenger traffic at all 39 airports handling commercial flights (including 24 under the HCAA, 14 managed by Fraport Greece, and Athens International Airport) also saw a notable increase of 12.4% in the first month of 2025.
The total number of passengers across these Greek airports climbed to 2,712,144, compared to 2,413,403 in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, aircraft movements (domestic and international arrivals and departures) at the country’s 39 airports, where air traffic control is primarily handled by the HCAA, registered a 5.8% rise in January of 2025 compared to the previous year. A total of 24,200 flights were conducted in January 2025, up from 22,874 in January 2024.

Preparations for the new tourism season in Greece are already underway, with market indicators reinforcing expectations for continued growth. The steady extension of the tourist season is fueling optimism, highlighting Greece’s strong position as a top global destination.
Industry stakeholders widely agree that 2025 is set to be another successful year. The Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE) also maintains an optimistic outlook, citing a recent study on the economic performance of Greece’s key tourism markets.
The report predicts a further rise in international arrivals and tourism revenue in 2025, driven by the country’s expanding and improving tourism services.
