Newly Appointed Dep. Development Minister Aristos Doxiadis Resigns

Aristos Doxiadis who was appointed as Deputy Minister of Development in last week’s government reshuffling by PM Kyriakos Mitsitakis announced his resignation, citing unethical attacks from the opposition. In a statement, he explained that his decision was made both for personal peace of mind and to protect the government from what he described as a “witch hunt.”

His resignation has been accepted by the Prime Minister, and his replacement is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Doxiadis accused the opposition parties of launching unfounded attacks against him since his first day in office, exposing him to the harsh realities of political life.

Addressing allegations related to the company book publishing company Apollon, he clarified that he had been acquitted by a criminal court in 2013 and had faced no further legal issues since. He emphasized that multiple governments had come and gone without any concerns raised, dismissing the accusations as unfounded.

“I do not wish to waste my life on such conflicts,” he stated, explaining that his resignation aims to protect both his personal well-being and the integrity of his portfolio.

He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to serve and lamented the toxic political climate that discourages active citizens from contributing to the country’s progress.
