Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the General Police Directorate of Attica on Wednesday, March 19, where he chaired a meeting at the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DAOE). He was received by Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis and the director of a newly-formed unit similar to the FBI, Fotis Douitsis, and was briefed on the activities of the department.
Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the significant successes achieved by the Directorate in a relatively short period. He recalled his discussions with the minister when the initiative was first introduced and emphasized his immediate support for it.
The prime minister highlighted two major operations conducted by the department: the crackdown on a large illegal tobacco network with links to the so-called “Greek Mafia” and the highly effective operation against the trafficking of illicit and adulterated fuel, which targeted multiple gas stations and the entire supply chain.
The Greek Premier also stressed the importance of international cooperation in law enforcement, acknowledging that organized crime operates across borders and constantly seeks to stay ahead of authorities. He placed particular emphasis on the use of technology, especially artificial intelligence, to enhance data processing capabilities, allowing for more targeted actions and more effective results.
