Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is traveling to Israel, where he will meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Sunday, March 30.
The visit comes at a critical juncture for the region and is expected to highlight the depth of the strategic partnership between Greece and Israel.
Key discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in defense, energy projects of mutual interest, and the implementation of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), further elevating the geopolitical significance of Greek-Israeli relations.
According to sources, the meetings will cover bilateral collaboration as well as regional developments, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean and Syria. Greece and Israel are seen as key players in promoting stability in the area.
The talks will also address the expansion of regional cooperation, building on the recent Greece-Israel-Cyprus trilateral meeting in Athens, which reaffirmed the commitment to the “3+1” format with the participation of the United States.
During his visit, Mitsotakis is expected to brief Netanyahu on the recent quadrilateral summit in Paris, where he met with the Presidents of France, Cyprus, and Lebanon. The interim President of Syria also participated in part of the discussions via videoconference.
Greek government sources indicate that Mitsotakis will emphasize the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in southern Lebanon and will advocate for the release of hostages and an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza. He is also expected to reiterate Greece’s support for peace efforts in Gaza and the initiation of a broader political process aimed at a two-state solution, ensuring Israel’s security.
Additionally, the prime minister will meet with leaders of Israel’s defense industry to explore avenues for deeper military cooperation, including potential co-production initiatives within Greece’s defense ecosystem.
